What a VPN actually does on your phone
By FastConnect team · 06 Oct 2026
A VPN creates an encrypted tunnel between your phone and a server. Apps and websites still work the same way, but the network you are on (your Wi-Fi or mobile carrier) only sees encrypted traffic going to one server.
What changes
- Traffic between your phone and the VPN server is encrypted.
- The websites you visit see the VPN server's address, not yours.
- Your network operator can see that you are connected to a VPN, and roughly how much data you move.
What it does not do
A VPN does not make you anonymous to the sites you log into, and it does not stop tracking through cookies or your accounts. It also does not protect a phone that already has malicious software.
Choosing a server
FastConnect can pick a server for you automatically. It measures how quickly each server answers and connects to the fastest one first, falling back to the next if a server does not respond.
